2 Samuel 2:1 - 2 Samuel 5:25

After the death of Saul and Jonathan his son,
David was not yet Israel's king. In fact they now had none.

David asked the Lord, shall I go up and live in Judah's land?
The Lord said yes. This is a part, of all that I have planned.

So the tribe of Judah made David their king after Saul and Johnathan's death.
But Abner found a lost son of Saul. His name was Ishbosheth.

Abner made him king of Israel, while in Judah, David did reign.
This caused a war that lasted long. Abner, I think you're a pain.

Over the years David prevailed, till Abner wanted a deal.
Make peace with me and I'll make you king over all of Israel.

Then David made peace with Abner, but Joab didn't see it that way.
Joab was David's captain and his brother, Abner did slay.

He killed my brother said Joab. I need vengeance for what he did.
In secret Joab met Abner, and smote him under his rib.

Now in Hebron the elders met David. He was 37 years old.
They made David king of all the land. The shepherd now had a huge fold.

As a shepherd David protected his sheep, now as king he would do it again.
He fought and defeated the Philistines. That's a pretty good way to begin!
