2 Kings 2:1-2:25

The time came when God would take Elijah. It seemed that the prophets all knew.
Elijah said to Elisha to Bethel I go. Elisha said, I'm going with you.

The prophets at Bethel said the time is now come. God shall take Elijah away.
Elisha said yes, with him I'll abide. I am ready for this day.

Elijah told Elisha to Jericho I go. Then I will go with you, you see.
But at Jericho Elijah said now unto Jordan. You don't have to come with me.

Your side I'll not leave said Elisha. To the waters of Jordan they trod.
With his mantle the waters were parted. There is nothing too hard for God.

I go now declared Elijah. What gift can l leave with you?
A double portion of God upon me. Is that something that you can do?

You ask a great deal my prophet. But this will be the sign.
If you see God take me to heaven, your spirit will be twice that of mine.

Then God's chariot of fire swept Elijah away, as Elisha was watching him go.
So upon the old prophet God's promise was kept. He asked, and God made it so.

Elisha picked up the mantle of Elijah, and crossed the Jordan again.
The prophets at Jericho saw what was done, and knew God was empowering him.

But they wondered, was Elijah really taken by God, or passed on a mountain up high?
They searched for three days with 50 strong men. I told you he did not die.

So they believed the word of Elisha, but their water was bitter and bad.
God let Elisha fix their well with the best water they ever had.

Then Elisha traveled to Bethel. Where youths made fun of God's man.
He said, if I be a man of God, let Him strike you with his hand.

Two bears came out of the forest. Forty-two of the mockers were slain.
Do not mock God or his servants. That lesson was made pretty plain.
